Water Drop Patch for Girl Scouts at the Nygren Wetland Preserve

Girl Scouts are invited to earn the Water Drop Patch by participating in interactive sessions about wetlands and groundwater.  Cost is $8 per scout.  Call Lucas Bradley at the Natural Land Institute at 815/964-6666 for information or to sign up.

Annual Memorial Day Prairie Walk

Meet at the Roscoe Township offices, 5792 Elevator Road.  Enjoy this easy hike along the abandoned railroad bed, beautiful prairie wildflowers and the historic double-arch stone bridge.  Free. For information contact the Natural Land Institute at 815/964-6666.

Learn about a program that gives children and their families the opportunity to help reforest the Nygren Wetland Preserve.

Spring Planting Day

Annual gathering to plant grasses and wildflowers, and help with other stewardship work. A day for families, groups and individuals to enjoy the land and wildlife along the Pecatonica and Rock Rivers.  Free and open to the public.

Campfire Gathering for Volunteers of the Natural Land Institute

Volunteers, their families and friends are invited to enjoy a walk to see the wildflowers in full bloom, and then gather around the campfire for a relaxing evening of fun and refreshments.  Free and open to everyone interested in volunteering.

Wildflower Weekend

Friday: Guided walks throughout the day

Saturday: Ongoing activities for the whole family.  Enjoy guided tours, hay wagon rides and programs on wildlife and wildflowers.  Wild bergamot, coneflowers and false sunflowers will be in full bloom, making this one of the best times of the year to visit.  Stunning views of midsummer prairie wildflowers will give you an experience to cherish! 

Sunday: Unguided prairie walks; bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the day!

Free and open to the public.

Friday, August 15 - 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Mississippi Blufflands Boat Tour
Launch at Chestnut Mountain near Galena, Illinois

Enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the majestic Mississippi River bluffs, wildlife and an enchanting summer sunset on your private boat tour of this great river.  50 person maximum; reservations required. $40 each includes light meal and lift ticket.

Volunteers and their families are invited to enjoy food and festivities.  Volunteers will be recognized for their contributions to land conservation and stewardship.

Collect and clean seeds, enjoy guided tours and wagon rides throughout the day.  Everyone welcome.

Kinnikinnick Creek Planting Festival

Help recreate a Bur Oak Grove.  For schools, scouts and anyone who wants to help restoration along beautiful Kinnikinnick Creek.
