First Saturday Restoration Days: Nov. – May

9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Volunteering at the William & Gayle Keefer Nature Reserve is rewarding, especially when you see the spring ephemerals emerge in the woodlands after a long winter. Historic records show prairie and savanna in some areas of this site so staff and volunteers are working to restore these places. There are quarries on this site that we are also working to restore to native habitat.

Removing bush honeysuckle, removing old fences or installing new fences, clearing the way for new trails or maintaining the newly established trails are all part of the work that goes into helping care for this special place donated to NLI by Gayle Keefer.

Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes with closed toes. Bring gloves, water, and your own snacks.

Individuals and groups welcome.

Contact Laura Helmich, NLI’s Field Biologist, to let her know you want to volunteer on a specific date. Call: 712/301-1208. Email: lhelmich@naturalland.org.
