Public Information Meeting: NLI’s Legacy Tree Program

March 5 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

Natural Land Institute will hold a public information meeting about NLI’s Legacy Tree Program on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 12:00 p.m./Noon, in the Visitors Center at Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden, 2715 S. Main St., Rockford IL 61102. Registration is not required.

Leading the meeting will be Alan Branhagen, Executive Director, Natural Land Institute. Alan will talk about why NLI launched the Legacy Tree Program and why it’s important to create a tree registry, as well as explain registry criteria. He will discuss the diverse list of trees in the region and share one of the tree stories as an example. Attendees will also learn how to nominate and measure a tree and be able to sign up as a volunteer to go out and measure trees and collect seeds or propagules from nominated trees.

NLI’s Legacy Tree Program includes four components: recognition of trees, tree registry, distributing tree saplings grown from legacy trees, publishing a book about the region’s legacy trees.
