Location: Natural Land Institute office for classroom instruction, 320 S. 3rd St., Rockford, IL  61104 and field location after the lunch break is to be announced.

Learn to identify native and non-native trees and shrubs of northern Illinois by buds, twigs, and bark. Instruction provided by Natural Land Institute’s Director of Stewardship, Zach Grycan and Melissa Grycan, Restoration Ecologist for The Land Conservancy of McHenry County. Lunch will be on your own. You’ll receive in class instruction and worksheets, and participate on a team to identify trees and shrubs by twigs. Then you will visit a natural area to put your knowledge to work right away.
