Fall 2024

A geologic study in Boone County will begin in the new year. The purpose is to get a better understanding of the groundwater by surveying the geology of the county with a new tool and new technology. It will give officials a way to see where groundwater (or well water) is coming from and what condition it is in. Everyone benefits from this because we all use or consume water that comes from the ground.

Dan Kane, Water Resource Specialist for Boone County, has written a message that explains what will happen, how the technology works and other useful information. You will see a helicopter flying over Boone County with the special tool that sees deep into the ground starting in February or March of 2025.

Read Dan’s full message here: Three-Dimensional Geologic Mapping Project Is Being Planned 2 and see two diagrams that help explain how it works.

Natural Land Institute believes this is a very important process to evaluate water quality and is pleased Boone County is undertaking this endeavor. Protecting Water Quality and Hydrologic Integrity is the third component of our project selection checklist and scorecard.
