HAIKU FOR A SPRING DAY
by Carol J. Fox
Birds huddle for warmth
Snow swirls and clings to branches
Spring sleeps in this year
Phoebe sings phoebe
Chorus of jonquils joins the air
Life’s song starts anew
Flowering plum tree
Purple heart amid spring green
Living together
Stark pine stands alone
Pressing against God’s blue sky
Doubting nothing
Brash forsythia
Opens the door to candor
Spreads hope brazenly
Dandelion frills
Prim lawns resist their grandeur
Scattershot of gold

April is National Poetry Month and we are celebrating by sharing with you throughout the month some of the poems (and prose) from our own nature themed anthology called NATURAL VOICES: CELEBRATING NATURE THROUGH OPENED EYES. There are 14 authors in the book and one author’s name will be drawn randomly each time we post a poem or prose excerpt from the book until all authors have been represented. Check our news blog regularly for the poem/prose posts.
