Hi everyone! My name is Michael Tackett, I am the marketing intern for The Natural Land Institute (NLI). I am 19 years old and I am from Rockford, IL. I enjoy spending my time creating videos with my friends, playing music, and exploring the many nature preserves in the northern Illinois area. I am about to begin my sophomore year of college at University of North Carolina at Asheville, where I am majoring in Mass Communications with a minor in New Media. This internship has provided me with many great opportunities to better understand the work that goes into marketing and planning for an organization. Since starting this internship in May I have had the opportunity to work on many projects that have taught me a lot about the career path I hope to follow in the future. I have created social media posts and flyers, as well as helping out with planning and set up for many events this summer. My favorite experience so far has to be when I visited the WTVO news station with NLI’s Director of Marketing and Membership, Kim Johnsen. It was very interesting to see all of the different jobs the people working at the station perform in order to create a successful broadcast. I plan on going back to school and finishing my bachelors degree and I will use the skills and knowledge I have gained from this experience to help me pursue a career in advertising or social media. I am very excited to be a part of this organization and to help spread its message to the people living in our community.
