On May 21, more than 150 community members, many from Rockton, gathered in Settler’s Park and downtown Rockton to visit this year’s Rockton Pelican Fest– an event celebrating the American White Pelican.
Local businesses provided specials and activities themed around the bird. A free shuttle was provided by the Stateline Mass Transit District to the Nygren Wetland overlook where this pelican can be found. If you were unable to see one from the overlook, there was a live pelican found in Village Hall. Booths were set up in Settler’s Park, and along Main Street, with activities meant to teach children about the pelican and other native wildlife.
Rockton Pelican Fest will be held again next year, on May 22, 2023
