Family Nature Day: June 22, 2019
Natural Land Institute (NLI) is pleased to announce that it has received a $2,500 grant for the 2019 Family Nature Day from The Kjellstrom Family Foundation.
Family Nature Day is a free family themed event that features 13 learning stations at Nygren Wetland Preserve in Rockton, Illinois. The event will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019, 9 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Children will get a passport book to get stamped at the learning stations, a Nygren Wetland Junior Naturalist Badge, a certificate of recognition, and a backpack to keep after visiting the stations. “Each station has a page in the passport with a mission, questions and suggested activities, and information related to the station topic. It’s something they can continue to work on at home, too,” said Kim Johnsen, NLI’s Director of Marketing & Membership. “Adults also get something after visiting the stations” she said. Event attendees can start and end on their own and explore at their own pace during the event hours.
This is the fifth year for Family Nature Day at Nygren Wetland Preserve. “We couldn’t do this event without the support of grants, sponsors, partner organizations and more than 50 people volunteering their time to make this event happen,” said Johnsen. “We’re very grateful for the support of The Kjellstrom Family Foundation. This is the second year we received a grant from them. Their gift goes towards expenses to put on the event.”
Family Nature Day is an event that NLI hosts to provide free family fun with positive experiences in nature and engage all ages in learning about the natural world.
