Learning More About Our Volunteers
In the words of Charlie Sturm
NLI Trustee, Marketing & Membership Committee Chair, Event and Stewardship Volunteer
I am co-chair of the Membership and Marketing Committee. I started volunteering for NLI in 2006, collecting seeds at the Nygren Wetland Preserve’s Native nursery, that led to me replacing Jim Pemble on the NLI Board. Jim had invited me up to Nygren for the first time right after a big winter snow storm. We hiked the trails so I could see where NLI had diverted Racoon Creek back to its original meandering stream. I vividly remember how much water was rushing through the twisted woodland creek. Since then I have been involved with the planning of several “Party on the Prairies” and helped establish “Wine at the Wetland”. Both of these events raise money for operations at Nygren Wetland Preserve. I also volunteered at the NLI City Market booth in downtown Rockford.
In my free time I enjoy gardening and travel and spending socially distanced time with friends and family. I attended Boylan High School and Clarke College in Dubuque.
