Region 1 Planning Council (R1PC)
The R1PC Climate Action Plan (CAP) serves as the blueprint for advancing collaborative and informed climate action within Boone and Winnebago counties. This plan is the first regional approach to preparing for and responding to the local impacts of climate change.
Climate change poses severe threats to environmental, economic, and public health. The CAP on successful and equitable climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies that align with community needs. The plan considers the physical and direct impacts of climate change including extreme temperatures, severe storms, and flooding, but it will also consider the secondary impacts like declining biodiversity and public health impacts.

Katharine Hayhoe
Katherine Hayhoe is a leading climate and atmospheric scientist, as well as a well respected communicator about the issues surrounding climate change. She has received many accolades throughout her career including recognition in 2014 as one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People, in 2017 as one of FORTUNE’s 50 World’s Greatest Leaders and was twice (2014, 2019) named on the Foreign Policy’s list of 100 Leading Global Thinkers. She was named one of the United Nations Champions of the Earth in 2019 in the science and innovation category. She is currently the Chief Scientist for The Nature Conservancy and a professor at Texas Tech University. Read more about her and her work here.
