Endowment for the Nygren Wetland Preserve
The Gordon G. Eggers Fund, an Endowment for the Nygren Wetland Preserve, was established to support ongoing restoration and management of this preserve to ensure that it will be here for future generations of plants, animals and people.
You and I are witnesses to the return of the bluebirds, whooping cranes, white pelicans, river otters, and green frogs…returning to their home all because of you and your support of the restoration of this unique place. The converging rivers were a major trading point for the Winnebago and other first people. Later the settling farmers came, breaking the prairie sod to support their families. Now we are giving back to the creatures who first settled this land. Your gift will continue to grow ensuring their future for the next thousand years.
Your gift to the Gordon G. Eggers Fund

About Nygren Wetland Preserve
Nygren Wetland Preserve is a 721-acre wildlife refuge with restored wetlands, prairies and woodlands located in northern Winnebago County. The Rock and Pecatonica Rivers come to a confluence at the southeast corner of the preserve. Raccoon Creek flows through the preserve and after it was restored to a meandering stream a significant increase in aquatic life was found there. Since the former farmland was purchased in 2000 Natural Land Institute staff and volunteers have worked to restore and manage this preserve with amazing results of wildlife returning to this natural area such as Sandhill cranes, Whooping Cranes (on the Federal Endangered Species List), American White Pelicans, Great Egrets, Great Blue Herons, river otters, beavers, mink, several varieties of frogs and turtles and many other wild creatures. People benefit from this preserve when the wetlands store water during raining seasons and reduce flooding downstream of the Rock River.
Natural Land Institute is a tax exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
