Make a Bequest

Carl Nygren was not what most people would think of as a philanthropist. Carl and his wife, Myrna, were working people who had a great love of the outdoors. As a hunter and fishermen Carl was acutely aware of the loss of wildlife habitat. This was a problem Carl knew he wanted to address, and after a lifetime of hard work and careful saving he had the resources to put his words into action. In an effort to be sure that his wishes were carried out faithfully, Carl listened to the ideas put forth by potential beneficiary organizations finally selecting the Natural Land Institute as the one best suited to fulfill his dream of creating a wildlife sanctuary. Carl made a bequest to the Institute through his will, and with his visionary gift, NLI was able to purchase and restore the 721 acres of land on the Pecatonica and Rock Rivers now known as the Carl and Myrna Nygren Wetland Preserve.
